The central figure is a knight in full plate armor, mounted on a caparisoned horse and holding a spear in his right hand. This traditional crest, positioned above a twisted torse (wreath), symbolizes preparedness, chivalry, and a history of military service, representing the willingness of the clan to defend its chief and principles.
The entire emblem is framed by a circular leather strap and buckle, a distinctive feature of Scottish clan crest badges. Historically, this design indicated that the wearer was a follower of the chief, as only the chief himself was entitled to wear the crest alone. The flowers positioned at the bottom, often identified as primroses or trefoils, are another traditional symbol associated with the clan's land or arms.
The Latin motto on the top scroll, "VIVE DEO ET VIVES," is translated as "Live for God, and You Shall Live." This powerful motto emphasizes religious faith, moral obligation, and the belief that a purposeful life is one dedicated to a higher power, reflecting the fundamental values of the Clan Craig. Today, it stands as a proud emblem of identity for those with Craig heritage.
