The crest shown is the official badge of Clan Dalziel, a historic Scottish family with roots in Lanarkshire. It is composed of a traditional belt, known as a 'strap and buckle,' which symbolises loyalty and adherence to the chief and clan. At the top of the belt is the motto 'I Dare,' a powerful and direct declaration of courage and resolve. This phrase is linked to a legend in which a brave Dalziel ancestor, asked to complete a dangerous task to save a king, simply replied, 'I dare.'

Within the circle, the central feature is a dagger or athame, rendered in a meticulous, black and white engraved style. It stands vertically, its blade pointing upwards, signifying readiness and defensive strength. The dagger is set upon a torse, which is a twisted wreath, shown here with alternating bands of red and gold, representing the traditional colours of the clan.
