This Scottish clan badge is the official symbol of allegiance for members of Clan Heron. Encircling the chief’s crest is the traditional ‘strap and buckle,’ the universal heraldic form designating a follower. The circular frame is detailed with metal studs and features small, stylized crosses at the base, emphasizing a foundation in faith.
The central figure, set upon a twisted torse, is the crest itself: a demi-badger depicted in a defiant, rampant posture. The badger, known for its tenacious nature, symbolizes bravery and a fierce defense of home and kin. Its distinctive features and elaborate, scrolling leafy tail highlight its unique identity within the clan's history. Clutched in its raised forepaws is a cross crosslet fitchy, a cross with both crossed arms and a sharpened point at the base. This specific cross represents steadfast faith combined with readiness; the point indicates the determination to stand firm or perhaps a historical crusading spirit.
The motto, positioned in a scroll above the crest, reads ‘Par Valeur,’ which translates from the French as ‘By Valor’ or ‘Through Courage,’ summarizing the clan's defining ethos. Below, a second scroll clearly states ‘Clan Heron,’ anchoring the entire design to the family it represents.
