This heraldic badge serves as the traditional identifier for Clan Home (or Hume), a powerful historic family of the Scottish Borders. At the center of the design is the crest itself: a lion’s head couped (cut straight at the neck) and in profile, with its jaws agape and tongue extended. The lion is the quintessential symbol of courage, strength, and nobility, reflecting the warrior spirit and high status of the lineage. The head rests upon a twisted torse (or wreath) and is supported by an ornate ermine-trimmed base, signifying high rank and distinction.
Enclosing the lion is a circular belt or strap with a detailed buckle on the left side. This element transforms the composition into a specifically Scottish "follower's badge." Historically, a clansman or retainer would wear this emblem to demonstrate allegiance and fidelity to their Chief (represented here by the Earl of Home). The belt symbolizes unity and being "bound" to the service of the clan. Two parchment-style scrolls display key information: the bottom identifies "CLAN HOME," while the top scroll bears the traditional war cry, "A HOME A HOME A HOME," historically used to rally the clan together on the battlefield. Together, these elements present a powerful image of pride, defense, and ancestral unity.
