This illustration features the clan crest of Clan MacAlpine, rendered in a traditional line-art style suitable for a historical woodcut. The crest is centered within a circular leather strap or garter, a standard element in Scottish heraldry which, when buckled, symbolizes loyalty and allegiance to the clan chief. Along the top of the garter, the motto "Cuinich bas Alpin" is inscribed, which translates from Scottish Gaelic to "Remember the death of Alpin."

The central image within the garter is the "Crest" proper: the head of a man, likely representative of Alpin, the legendary King of the Scots and progenitor of the clan. He is depicted with a long, flowing beard and a full head of hair, wreathed with a laurel, indicating honor and victory in life. Crucially, the head is shown "couped" (cut off cleanly) and "distilling drops of blood" from the neck. This visceral image directly references the fate of King Alpin, who was captured and beheaded by the Picts in 834 AD. The bloody head and the accompanying motto serve as a powerful and grim rallying cry, urging members of Clan MacAlpine to never forget the historical injustice and tragedy that befell their founding figure.
