This heraldic emblem is the defining badge of Clan MacKintosh, a historic and powerful Highland clan from Scotland. Centered within a traditional circular strap-and-buckle design, which signifies allegiance and is meant to be worn by clansmen to show loyalty to their chief, is the rampant wildcat. The Scottish wildcat (or cat-a-mountain) is a fitting symbol of the clan’s independent, fierce, and stealthy spirit. Known for its untameable nature and ferocity when cornered, the cat stands ready and defensive upon a twisted heraldic torse.
Emblazoned on the banner wrapping above the central figure is the clan’s famous motto: "Touch Not The Cat Bot A Glove." In archaic Scots, "bot" translates directly to "without." The motto serves as a strong warning, not just to avoid the cat's physical claws, but also to advise enemies to approach the MacKintoshes only if they are prepared for a serious fight (armored with a "glove" or gauntlet). It is a declaration that while the clan may appear peaceful, they are formidable and dangerous when provoked. Below the entire assembly, a lower scroll clearly identifies the name "Clan MacKintosh," anchoring the identity of this ancient, defensive, and proud Highland lineage.
